Swisher Gone to Yankees for Betemit and Two Prospects
This move did not at all surprise me. As I said before, Swisher's best place on the team as it is currently constituted seemed to be in the clubhouse for personality more than his lackluster play in 2008. Nick Swisher simply does not have a position on this team with Konerko still here, Dye in right and Quentin in left. Nick Swisher is not a natural center fielder, and hit poorly overall, so poorly he was benched for Dewayne Wise and Brian Anderson when it was all said and done. I'm glad the Sox at least got two quality arms in Marquez and Nunez, and Betemit as a backup for Josh Fields at third base. When trying to think of this roster, I see Fields at third, Ramirez at short, Pierzynski catching, perhaps Getz at second, Konerko at first, Quentin in left, Dye in right, and perhaps...Jerry Owens in center? I could still see the Sox making a play for Figgins to fill the leadoff role as well as being a better option at third base than the average-fielding Josh Fields.
I think Williams is not quite done. I don't believe either Jerry Owens or Brian Anderson will be the starting center fielder next year. I think Kenny has at least two fairly big moves to make. Third, second, and center are all potential question marks, yet could all potentially be filled in-house, depending on which direction Kenny decides he wants to go. I trust Kenny will make the right moves as he seems to more often than not...
