Sox Win Big Behind Bats, Buehrle Over Angels 10-2 (Game 140, '08)
The White Sox needed a big win after a bigger loss earlier today when it was announced Carlos Quentin will be having surgery on a broken wrist, and will almost certainly be out for the rest of the regular season. Whether Quentin could come back should the Sox make the postseason remains to be seen. What's sad is the fact Quentin hurt himself by striking his bat in anger with an open hand during an at-bat against Cliff Lee in the Cleveland series. This seems to be bad luck, but I was glad to see how well Buehrle pitched tonight and how Konerko looked locked in at the plate. The way I see it, if the Sox lost Quentin, but gain a locked-in Paul Konerko, that's not so bad. It is never good to lose an offensive force like Quentin, who could arguably be the league MVP. Still, Konerko did not hit for over half the season while Quentin did. Konerko is now hitting with Quentin out, and other guys, at least tonight, seemed to really step it up. With Uribe, I like his defense, but if we get some offense out of him, as we did tonight, it's gravy. I can only hope the White Sox will respond as a TEAM, with everyone pulling on the same rope to get the job done to the end...
