Sox Beat Themselves With 3-2 Loss (Game 157, '08)

No hitting in the clutch again tonight.  It is amazing how almost every time the Twins make contact, they find holes.  AJ smokes a ball in the ninth inning, and it's caught.  Ridiculous.  I think the writing is on the wall.  The Sox' approach offensively is not good, and hasn't been for a long time.  Tomorrow is a MUST WIN.  If they do not win, I believe the season is effectively over.  A part of me is almost waiting for someone to put the Sox out of their misery since it looks like they are waiting for just that.  Mark Buehrle was very good, but the Sox offense couldn't hit the mighty Blackburn with an ERA over 6.  I called it before, and I have to say it again - the Sox will not win the division if it came down to this series.  I hope I 'm wrong, but this looks pretty bad.  What's difficult is to realize the Sox have shown their colors - shown who and what they are all year - good, but not great, offensively inconsistent, slow, and defensivly challenged.  That is not going to be good enough to win anything.  Last year was awful, but at least we as Sox fans knew where they stood.  They were bad.  Period.  This year they have teased us, and it looks like they are going to just miss - once again.  I saw the Twins run down the incredible Tigers in '06.  There is no reason to believe that will not happen to the Sox, who seem to find ways to lose more than win...
