Never In It...Sox Blown Away by Twins (Game 156, '08)
I should have put my money on Minnesota today. It would have been the easiest money I would have made all year. I called this yesterday. I knew Vazquez would be garbage. He was. I knew the Sox would not hit. They didn't. I knew Mauer, Morneau, and Kubel would knock the ball all over the yard. They did. I knew the Twins would successfully run on the Sox. They did.
The only way this Sox team can beat the Twins in the Dome is to pitch a near perfect game. They have to play flawless defense, and can put almost nobody on base. If they do that and hit a couple homers, they will win. If they don't, the won't. Simple as that. When you hear the manager of a team say his pitcher going for the game is not a 'big game' pitcher, you know you are not in good shape. Ozzie knows what he has, and the simple fact is, he does not have the team he wants. He has tried his best with what he has, but he just doesn't have the tools he needs to win consistently. It's not over, but with the way the Sox looked tonight, it might as well be.
