Double Dip...Sox Slip with Double-header Sweep by Jays (Games 143, 144, '08)
I don't like the loss of yet another game in the standings, nor the two losses today. But what bothers me more is the Sox' loss of Konerko, and knowing their luck this year, possibly for the season. Konerko looked pretty bad when he left the field in the nightcap, unable to walk on his own after he twisted his knee. It just looks more and more like it's just not going to happen for the Sox this season. I thought with Konerko hitting the ball hard lately, he could help mask the loss of Quentin. I've heard many say Konerko will have to matter for the Sox to succeed. He may not be available, and as of now, I'm almost looking ahead to next year. This team is banged up and it appeared to affect them on the field. There are only so many injuries a team can sustain until it is just too much. The Sox did okay when Konerko was out before, but now they don't have Quentin and Konerko was really heating it up, looking like 'playoff' Konerko so many Sox fans came to love in '05.
I also wonder about the 'wisdom' of Guillen and Cooper going with the consistently ineffective Clayton Richard instead of Lance Broadway. Broadway was effective. He got demoted to Charolette. Richard was bad and he got multiple starts. Go figure. The Sox don't have an effective 5th starter, but if they tried Broadway again, I cannot see how it would hurt. But nothing hurts like these big losses to the Sox' roster. These losses are huge and I expect them to cost the Sox a playoff spot...
