Damn Yankees! Sox Lose Again 9-2 (Game 152, '08)
As the Chicago White Sox continue their pitiful struggle to the finish line, there is a glimmer of hope in facing the Kansas City Royals in their next set of games. Then again, that could be a bad thing with the way the Royals have hit the Sox this year. I liked the Sox approach tonight in the first inning against Mussina. They took a lot of pitches, had some good at bats, and scratched across a run. But the Yankees did one ever better in their half of that same inning against Vazquez, and I knew after the seemingly unending bottom of the first, this was not going to be a White Sox winner.
Vazquez struggled in his brief 3 2/3 innings pitched, and with his 0-3 record on short rest, I think it's safe to say Ozzie and Coop need to try something else with this guy. The Sox pitching is failing at just the wrong time, and it will almost certainly cost them a playoff appearance in '08. A lot can change in short time, especially with the very slim 1 1/2 game lead, but the trend is not good. The only hope the Sox have is to win out the games in Kansas City, and hope the Twins drop the next three in Tampa Bay, so they can go into Minnesota with a 4 1/2 game lead. That will almost certainly not happen, but that is what I think needs to happen if they are going to make the postseason.
