Vazquez Spectacular in 9-0 Flushing of the Royals (Game 119, '08)
Javier Vazquez has been mediocre or worse lately. I have not been happy with him, and I haven't been shy about saying so. Tonight, however, I have to give him his props. He was fantastic. Nothing earned over eight innings is pretty good, especially after watching how this Royals team has hit Sox pitching this year. Vazquez needs to be this guy we saw tonight more often than not if the Sox are going to make the postseason.
The offense was fantastic too, even with Carlos Quentin resting and out of the lineup. And while Griffey continues to struggle, Swisher, Dye, and even Getz got in on the fun with RBIs and big time hits. To see Getz get his first major league hit and RBI of his career, and watch the smile on his face was great to see. Hopefully he can continue to contribute down the stretch.
The Sox can assure themselves of a series win with a victory tomorrow night. It seems even Guillen doesn't know who will start tomorrow night. Hopefully whoever it is will give the Sox a chance to win again...
