Sox Win to Live Another Day Behind Stellar Buehrle in 5-1 Win Over Indians(Game 161, ’08)

The Chicago White Sox have survived to play another day behind vintage Mark Buehrle and some clutch hitting by Konerko and company. Lose tomorrow against the Tigers behind ex-Sox Freddy Garcia and they will go home.  Win tomorrow, and they will survive yet another day for a one-game playoff at home against the Twins on Tuesday.  I will be working tomorrow, but cannot wait to hear how this all plays out.  It was unthinkable to me this would be necessary, but this is what the season has come down to.  And while the Sox can blame themselves for not putting this thing away earlier, the Twins too can blame themselves, since they could not take care of Kansas City, at least two of the three games this weekend in Minnesota.  It has been one exciting time to be sure, with both teams unable to put the other completely away…at least for now.

It is funny how things work out.  Freddie Garcia, the guy who was essentially replaced by Gavin Floyd, who bears the same number 34, will face each other in the most important game of the season to date for the White Sox.  Freddy is tough when his breaking ball is working, and I’m not sure how Floyd will fare on short rest.  The track record says we can expect little.  I hope that’s not the case.  That’s why they play em…game 162 tomorrow….unbelievable…
