Sox Washed Out
After last night’s horrendous 8th-inning affair, the Sox might have needed a day off. Without Scott Linebrink, the White Sox are simply not the same team, and even though he is back, it is obvious the Sox are in no hurry to use him. I heard on the radio today he barely touched 90 on the radar gun, when he was hurling it up in the mid to upper 90s before. When I hear Ozzie say things like, “What do we have to lose in using him” I’m not encouraged. I marvel at where this team would be if they were fully healthy and had not beaten themselves as often as they did this year. They would have had this division wrapped up and in the books by now.
But we don’t live on paper nor in fantasy, but in actual game reality. Another double-header tomorrow is not encouraging to me because it is very hard to sweep a twin bill. The Sox need every game they can get, especially after losing a game and a half in the division over the past few days. This Sox team is sagging towards the finish line, and I’m not sure this MASH unit will be able to do much even if they get into the playoffs. It will all be about pitching. The pitchers will have to attain 2005 heights if they are to go anywhere and do anything for the rest of 2008. We shall see…
