No Proof Involving Uribe, but Who Will Play Short for the White Sox?
I had a feeling Juan Uribe would get through the shooting accusations, and it appears he will, as prosecutors will not persue charges if no evidence is presented to the contrary in ten days. That is obviously good news for Juan Uribe, and for the White Sox, especially if they have designs on bringing him back at shortstop in 2007.
I have said it before and I will say it again. I want the White Sox to have Michael Young at short. Probably not going to happen, but there there are the possibilities of Alex Gonzales, A-Rod, how about Jimmy Rollins? The point is, I believe offensively the White Sox need an upgrade at shortstop. The Sox somehow lived with his streaky hitting in ’05 and won a Championship. Many lucky bounces, including the hit between Graffanino’s legs in the ALDS went his way. Of course, he did play spectacular defense, including the amazing jump into the crowd to make the second out of the 9th inning in Game 4 of the World Series. But I still believe an offensive upgrade, especially if Anderson will still be playing center field, is absolutely necessary.
I have to admit, it kind of makes me frustrated to watch all this activity going on around baseball with the Tigers landing Sheffield, the Cubs getting Soriano, the Red Sox negotiating with D-Mat, the Angels getting Gary Matthews Jr, etc. It appears the White Sox are sitting on their hands while everyone else is making moves to get better. Still, after watching Kenny Williams work for several years now, I know better than to think he is finished. I also know of his intense desire to win, regardless of what the White Sox accomplished in ’05. Look forward to seeing how the Sox’ next moves will pan out.
